This weekend was just perfect. We had nothing to do and no where to go and it was fabulous. We spent the majority of our time at home, relaxing together as a family.
It was especially great because it was a 3-day weekend. In Ian's line of work, long weekends and days off aren't a common occurrence. In fact, long work days and weeks are more common than long weekends and time off. Ian worked a little bit during Bella's nap time, but for the most part, he was unplugged from his laptops (yes, there are two) and his phone. It was wonderful to have his full attention the entire weekend and I know Bella also enjoyed the extra attention. Ian and Bella played together for hours and it was a joy to watch. The two of them ran around in the backyard for over an hour and seemed to really enjoy the gorgeous weather. Now this isn't to say that Ian is an inattentive father or husband, because that is simply not true, but it was really comforting to know that he wasn't stressed about work the entire weekend.
This morning we had an 3D/4D ultrasound at Meet the Baby. We had an u/s here back in November and found out the sex of baby #2 almost 2-weeks early. We bought a package that included another u/s, a maternity photo shoot (yuck) and a newborn photo shoot (cute). I'll be 27-weeks tomorrow and we haven't seen this little girl in almost 2-months! It was such a treat to get a peak into her little world... inside my belly. Apparently baby #2 found the u/s bothersome and spent the majority of the time evading the u/s technician and covering her face with her hands. She was quite the little mover and groover this morning and would not stay still. Baby #2 was uncooperative to say the least, BUT we will be able to see her again next week when we return for a rescan. I love that we were able to watch her for 15-20 minutes, but I was a little disappointed we didn't get any good pictures of her. And I am very thankful that we get to go back next week! Maybe then I shall have a few u/s photos to post in our blog.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing, taking naps and playing with Bella. A delicious dinner (made by Ian) completed our day and we're now unwinding with a quick episode of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Bath, books and bedtime will be here before we know it and tomorrow we will be back to our hectic, busy schedule. I have savored every moment of this weekend and I wish for more weekends like it. But I'd better get off the computer and make the most of these last fleeting moments of a perfect weekend.
Love always,
Ian, Kim, Bella & Baby #2
P.S. We have decided to limit television time for the entire family. Ian and I have curbed our own television watching dramatically and we have chosen to do the same for Bella. She wasn't watching a lot of television, but a little more than we would like. She is now limited to 30-minutes to 45-minutes of television a day. The first two days came with a lot of tears, as she was accustomed to waking up and watching one of her shows. We now keep music on during the day and focus on spending time with Bella. Now don't worry, we haven't turned into anti-television people or anything like that, we just find that a little moderation goes a long way. I'm sure there will be times when we are desperate for a moment to complete a chore and turn on the television for Bella, but hopefully those moments will be few and far between.
